Thank you for creating the awareness and education. I have always wondered what happened to those cans and bottles.

It’s nice to see the process actually happening, as horror stories of waste not being recycled because of the lack of demand for the processsed materials by manufacturers still persist which is completely unacceptable given the importance of trying to simultaneously reduce the wastestream and the amount of raw materials used in the first place for all of the critical health and environmental reasons known and established.

This begs the question of when will we as a region and a nation begin the final push towards making it illegal to manufacture anything, most especially “convenience” packaging, that is NOT recyclable? Closer to home, when is Sustainable Cleveland going to introduce the legislation to finally ban styrofoam cups and to-go containers, as well as, single-use plastic bags that were taken off the “acceptable” list for clogging the machines?

I applaud restaurateurs who have made the decision to only use compostable or recyclable containers, but the fact that these inert single-use materials continue to fill up the landfills because of the lack of political action, unconscious market forces, or lobbying from DuPont and the styrofoam shills is a disgrace as we approach the end of the 2nd decade in the 21st century. While our waterways and landmasses become increasingly polluted with stray materials, we must do better than this.
