Cleveland-based jazz sax player/composer/arranger Bobby Selvaggio, who heads the jazz studies program at Kent State University, seems to have a different project for each day of the week with different ensembles to fuel all his musical interests.

His Transcendental Orchestra project emerged from a pre-concert event he played at Severance Hall a few years back, prior to a Cleveland Orchestra concert. He created jazz-based music for his quartet and a string quintet, with strands of rock, pop, funk, Indian and Middle Eastern music woven through it.

He then put together the Quantum Man recording project using these musicians plus his wife Chelsea Selvaggio on vocals, and Cleveland-based internationally known percussionist Jamey Haddad. The Dot Time label is now releasing that album, an occasion he’ll mark with a show at the Bop Stop. Tickets are $15.
