Musical Rainbows, the Cleveland Orchestra’s introduction to musical instruments for little kids ages 3-6 (actually the age when some orchestra members had already chosen their instruments and begun their studies!), focuses this month on the smallest instrument in the orchestra: the flute. George Pope will play the flute, accompanied by Laura Silverman on piano, while narrator Mary Ann Nagel, as usual, hosts, explaining to kids how the instrument works while Pope demonstrates how it sounds.

The 50-minute program, taking place in Severance Hall’s more intimate Reinberger Chamber Hall, features short solo pieces and kid-friendly tunes that encourage participation — clapping, singing and even jumping around a little. Tickets are $7.
