Jazz/pop vocalist Helen Welch is originally from the U.K., and did stints in New York and London, where she performed onstage and with big bands. Then, while on vacation in Switzerland, she met a Clevelander, fell in love and settled here in 2003.

Since moving to Cleveland, she’s really embedded herself in the area’s music scene with frequent cabaret, nightclub and theatrical style performances, ranging from appearances with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra to evenings devoted to the Beatles. She’s released three CDs, One Dream in 2006, Forever for Now in 2010 and her holiday CD Home for Christmas. She has a new album called Spellbound featuring her renditions of tunes such as Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now,” Chick Corea’s “Spain,” and the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins classic “I Put a Spell on You.”

She’ll be celebrating the album’s release at Nighttown, where she’ll be joined by pianist Joe Leeman, acoustic bassist Bryan Thomas, guitarist Joe Parker and drummer Anthony Taddeo. Tickets are $20.
