Artist Will Jean’s work is well known to Clevelanders — or maybe it’s not. The retired teacher/administrator at the Cleveland Institute of Art was a mainstay of the old May Shows at the Cleveland Museum of Art with his geometric abstract paintings. But his recent work has opened up and become more evocative and powerful, incorporating Asian influences and religious imagery and making use of collage.

He’s also moved from his long-time studio in the Artcraft Building to the ground floor of the Tower Press Building where he’s among a community of artists of all ages and opens his doors to art-makers. He also does art-making with homeless men in the surrounding community. On top of that, his work is being used for a new line of scarves. Retirement is great!

Jean will open his studio to a guided tour hosted by the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve of which he was a founding member. It’s $10 for Artists Archives members, $20 for others. Reserve a spot at the AAWR website.
