Although they haven’t received a flurry of concentrated hype, Mr. Gnome has quietly become one of northeast Ohio’s most original and productive ensembles over the last decade. Their difficult-to-describe music combines hard-hitting cannonballs of guy-punching drums and corrosive guitar with passages to so translucently lovely they seem to float to your ears.

The husband-and-wife duo of Sam Meister (drums, keyboards) and Nicole Barille (guitar, vocals) who comprise the duo have a well-organized musical career that generally includes a couple of swings around the country per year to keep feeding their loyal fan base, interspersed with time at home in Chardon where they write, rehearse and record new material and take care of band business, most of which they do themselves, down to designing album jackets, posters and T-shirts, and making videos.

They usually favor local fans with a couple of gigs a year. And while that generally includes a sold-out Christmas show at the Beachland, this year, they’re performing there pre-Halloween. The lineup features three other excellent area acts: Jivviden, If These Trees Could Talk and Marcus Alan Ward. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door.
