Shari Wilkins & John Carlson Reprise ‘Destruction of Form’ at 78th Street Studios

Shari Wilkins and John W. Carlson joined forces last year for a collaborative show called Destruction of Form in which each built their work upon found, or vernacular, photos. Carlson made paintings which altered the photographer’s imagined intent while Wilkins altered the surface of the photos’ original form. Both artists suggested that, when removed from its original context, a photo could project an entirely different meaning.

The show also hung at BAYarts this past spring and now it will be on display at the Forum Artspace at 7th Street Studios. But even if you’ve seen it, stop in again. They’ve created new work for the show which they describe as “using vernacular photography and antiquated photographic processes creating paintings, drawings, with 2-D and 3-D constructs.”

The show goes on view during Third Friday from 5-9pm and will run through Fri 10/21.
