Every year pet skunk owners (yes, there are many of them) gather in North Ridgeville’s South Central park for Skunkfest, sponsored by the North Ridgeville-based skunk rescue, Skunkhaven. Owners proudly show off their cute, well-fed, furry critters which come in many colors in addition to the classic black-with-white-stripes, browse craft and pet supply booths, and check out other adorable animals including a cage full of ferrets brought by a ferret rescue.
There were competitions for the skunks too including a costume contest and a race course. And while the skunks are more cooperative than your cat when it comes to costumes, when it comes to racing down a track, they perform in a familiarly feline manner, lying down on the job while frustrated owners nudged their recalcitrant pets with their feet. All in all, the event as, as usual, cuteness overload.
