Tue 9/27 @ 7:30PM

The Emerson String Quartet began, as many such ensembles do, as a student group at the Juilliard School of Music. Performing professionally for four decades with only a handful of member changes, it’s released nearly three dozen albums and earned nine Grammys. The group is currently quartet-in-residence at Stony Brook University in New York.

As it launches its 40th anniversary touring season, it will make a stop at Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall to open the season for the long-running Tuesday Musical Association. The program will include a world-premiere piece by English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage, commissioned for the group’s anniversary, which will be heard for the first time in Akron. The composer will present the pre-concert talk at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $40 and $45.
