Rachel Latina Shows Pop-Influenced Works at Waterloo’s Article Gallery

Rachel Latina

Fri 9/2 @ 6-10PM

If you’ve hung around Waterloo Road at all, you’ve probably seen Rachel Latina’s work in places like Six Shooter Coffee Cafe. The figurative painter/illustrator’s works are vivid, colorful and approachable but there’s a lot more going on there than what you see on the surface. She says she’s exploring femininity in the contest of culture, and she does so with a light enough hand that viewers can just enjoy the image as image or bring their own references to bear to decipher other messages in what she paints.

Her upcoming show at the Article Gallery (where she maintains her studio) should feature some seriously punchy eye candy. Titled ALT POP, it includes bright, even cartoonish work with titles that seem swiped from comics. She describes the new work as containing “more fun and loose interpretations of popular culture.”

It opens with a reception during this month’s Walk All Over Waterloo.
