Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island is legendary for its party scene — its biggest bars where, on weekends, thousands of people flock to drink and hook up.
But it’s a different story midweek when families wander down the main drag in search of ice cream, visit the cave and butterfly house at Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center or check out Perry’s monument and the visitor center devoted to the history of the Battle of Lake Erie. You can tool around the island in a golf cart or on a bicycle, hike natural preserves and even visit a mini chocolate museum attached to a chocolate shop and watch the famous I Love Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel become candy-wrappers.
Even when it rains, it’s a great day trip.
