Café Avalaun is a little off the beaten path for many Cleveland’s, located out in Warrensville Heights on the county’s south side. But the coffee shop, creperie and café is well worth seeking out, because it’s unique: it’s Cleveland’s only 100% gluten-free café and bakery. Brian and Jennifer Doyle started the business after going gluten-free themselves to address family health issues. It’s not only gluten-free but also provides multiple options for vegans, vegetarians and those with nut and dairy allergies.
Brian Doyle is known to casual food fans for creating the menu at the Beachland Ballroom, made with free local ingredients. That’s a policy he still pursues at Avalaun where he sources everything from meats to produce to coffee from local farms and businesses to produce his menu of salads, paninis, wraps, and sweet or savory crepes.
