New owners took over the old Mayfield Café in Little Italy in early 2015 and completely redid the building in preparation for the January 2016 opening of the Tavern of Little Italy. Owners Eric Kennedy and Dominic Gogol brought something new to the dining mix of the restaurant-heavy neighborhood. Instead of another Italian place — whether cheap or upscale — it’s a neighborhood gastropub with a casual but quality menu and a large list of craft beers as well as wine by the glass or bottle. It’s so neighborhood-y it’s even promoting the games it’s showing on its three big-screen TVs.
