Area music fans got to know Brent Wesley as the front man for Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites, crooning those sweet soul sounds. But many don’t know that Wesley, who now fronts his own band, purveys sweetness of another variety too.
In 2013, he started setting out beehives in vacant lots in Akron and collecting the honey, which he sells at markets under the name Akron Honey Company. In 2014, he started the Akron Honey Company Market Days in the summer to share his products and those of other small local businesses with a complementary vibe. By 2016, the company had expanded into natural, honey-based skin care products, a line it continues to grow along with the northeast Ohio retailers who carry its products.
