Winter Art Invitational: 13 Artists & @UnivofDayton’s Crèche Collection @WasmerGallery @UrsulineCampus

Opening Fri 11/15 @ 5pm

This Friday, Ursuline College presents The Winter Art Invitational featuring the University of Dayton International Crèche Collection.  The exhibition features 13 regional artists and more than 50 crèches (Christmas nativity scenes).  The University of Dayton’s Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute holds the largest collection of printed material on the Virgin Mary in the world – as well as nearly 3,000 crèches from around the world.  The crèches range in styles and designs, reflecting the diverse cultures of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to exhibit nativity sets in the Winter Art Invitational. We love the global and timeless qualities of the crèches,” comments Anna Arnold, director of Wasmer Gallery. “The uplifting theme, the rich textures, exciting techniques and the vivid color palettes in all of the work makes it accessible to a variety of age-groups and cultures.”

The exhibition also includes the diverse work of over a dozen local and regional artists (including Cool Cleveland contributor Josh Usmani).  Their work encompasses a wide range of media including drawings, paintings, quilts, original prints, mixed media, ceramics and fine leather art.  Many of the artists will attend the reception.

Participating artists include Mikhail Bratslavsky, Shawn Jimenez, Robert Jursinski, StankaKordic, Mitzi Lai, James McNamara, Jenny Mendes, Geneva Sarratt, Josh Usmani, Sequoia Versillee, Jerome White, Linda Zolten Wood and Evie Zimmer.

This event is free and open to the public.  Exhibition runs through Fri 1/17.  Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Friday Noon-5pm, Saturday & Sunday 1:30pm-4:30pm
