North Union Farmers Market started the now-flourishing farmers market movement in Cleveland. Its initial market at Shaker Square, founded in 1995 by Donita Anderson, has now spawned many more, and the Shaker Market has grown into a high-powered monster that features dozens of local food producers, artists, and artisans, filling both blocked-off sides of Shaker Boulevard at Shaker Square at the height of the season.
North Union carefully vets its farmers, inspecting farms and issuing a certification to sell, so quality is guaranteed here. The sheer number of vendors — it’s the area’s largest weekly farmers market — assures you’ll find a range of seasonal produce, valued-added products, flowers, vegetable starter plants, artist creations, handmade clothing, and snacks. In mid-summer, you’ll also find multiple cooking demonstrations and musicians providing entertainment. North Union also sponsors its annual two-day Garlic Festival at Shaker Square taking place Sat 8/27-Sun 8/28, 2016.
The market takes place on Saturdays from 8am-noon 4/2-12/17. The winter indoors markets takes place Saturdays from 9am-noon January through March inside the northeast quadrant of Shaker Square next to the CVS.
