Spaces

SPACES Gallery is an artist-driven nonprofit (half its board must be working artists) launched in 1978 that gives artists — both local and international — a place to experiment, to create and show work in all media from painting and sculpture to installation and video (a particular emphasis of the space). Its SWAP (SPACES World Artist Program) is a residency program that gives international artists an opportunity to work in Cleveland and Cleveland artists the chance to work abroad.

Since its founding, it’s been at three locations — in PlayhouseSquare, the Warehouse District and Superior Viaduct. In January 2017 it moved into its fourth, on the ground floor of the newly refurbished Van Rooy Building in Ohio City’s Hingetown neighborhood, where it has even more space for exhibitions, educational programs, and special events such as music and dance concerts, family days and more.
