PREVIEWS & REVIEW: OldBoy on Coventry

OldBoy on Coventry
A summer concert to remember & more to look forward to

If you’ve been wondering which band should have the pre-soundtrack to The Princess Bride, you may have found the match. Last Thu 8/4, local band OldBoy kicked off a Summer Music & Movie series event held in Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Park. It may not have been OldBoy’s typical crowd, but members Shawn Brewster, Kevin Suman, Mike Kinsella, Istvan Medgyesi and Joshua Davis serenaded parents, teens and 2-4 year-olds in stride. OldBoy played in the entrance archway to the park, coercing all spectators to walk straight through their set. Bicyclists kicked down their kickstands, kids let their drool drip, and dogs ran wild. A concert to remember.

OldBoy played their original songs, as well as some covers – including a heavier version of Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold.” Despite the different venue, OldBoy let loose a full sound – proving that Peace Park can pack a lot of sound. Brewster’s raspy vocals bring to life the guitar, drums and harmonica, taking spectators into the music.

And, now I’m giving you three things to look forward to:

1.) OldBoy is playing THIS Fri 8/12 from 5-6:30PM at the RLife Live Event in the lobby of the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel http://www.RLifeLive.com.

2.) OldBoy is playing THIS Fri 8/12 at 9PM in the Grog Shop alongside some talented Clevelanders you should get to know: Jason Patrick Meyers, Istvan Medgyesi and the Hedgehogs Dilemma.

3.) Coventry’s next and possibly last Summer Music & Movie series is this Thu 8/11 and will be showing the Wizard of Oz. Bring a blanket and follow Coventry Road to your place on the hillside.
